Note to Marty in New York. The hinged idler wheel cover is a feature on the Wilton Model No. 4002, which is a 1" x 42" belt/disk combo sander. I've used these six days a week for a couple of years in my knife sharpening business. I have three of them which I switch out every 5 or 6 months. Then I have the bearings replaced. And I completely agree with you about the garbage Delta is having made in China. For the first twelve years of my business, I used their Delta 1' x 42" belt/disk combo unit. While they were being made in Taiwan, they were pretty good. When Delta moved production to China, the price dropped and the quality went into the toilet. so did their sanding belts and their service centers. Marty, describing the quality as "junk" is really generous. For what it's worth, Delta is owned by Black and Decker, as is DeWalt, as is Porter Cable. B&D is just interested in making money short term, with little or no long term vision.

I only have this unit for one day and I'm already impressed. Let me begin by saying this unit replaces a chinese built, Delta, 4" belt x 6" disc unit. The unit was well packed, instructions were clear ( if you have to read them you probably shouldn't be using power tools). The unit went together, attached to the workbench and was set up in 15 minutes. Fit and finish is excellent, there is plenty of power for a unit this size, belt tracks just fine and disc runout is quite acceptable. The description refers to a hinged idler wheel cover, I just can't find one. If anyone knows what they are referring to please let me know. All that remains to be seen is how long the unit will do it's job without a breakdown. Oh, and by the way, you guys at DElta should be ashamed of the junk you're making in China.
